Guidelines for Starters

At all events a Committee member (normally the Treasurer) will be present with the payment machine as part of the Starters group.

The Starters role is to record members arrival and hand them their scorecards, course maps for shotgun starts and any other relevant material.

In the month prior to the event

  1. Collect the 4 nearest-to-the-pin Markers from the Handicapper (Ray Desmond 0408 590 868);
  2. Collect Name Labels from the Handicapper. (updates and latest handicaps will be emailed weekend prior to game by the Handicapper).

About 1 week before the event

Several of these steps should not be necessary after 2023 when the cards will be prepared by the Club Committee

  1. One starter (lead) to collect Cards from the host-club pro-shop.

Days / Day Prior

  1. The Captain emails starters sheets to all playing members a day or two before the event. These sheets may be superseded and new version propared for the event where there are changes known. Bring a printed copy of your sheet and a highlighter to mark off members as they register.
  2. Obtain latest handicap from Handicapper (Ray Desmond 0408 590 868) who will email list weekend prior. Some of these steps should not be necessary after 2023 when the cards will be printed by the Club with the correct handcap details.;
  3. Fix name labels and handicaps to course cards for those registered;
  4. Have spare cards for additions / changes on match day;
  5. Pair those renting Carts and separate from walkers;
  6. Uggestion: Sort cards into group order for quick access;
  7. Most members will pay by machine, and if not they should have the correct amount in an envelope with their name.
  8. Ensure you pack:
    1. Cards;
    2. Starters Sheet;
    3. Players Group Sheet Unless more than 50+ starters expected, only the first page is needed;
    4. NTP Markers;
    5. Change & Vets Financial Summary Sheet.

At the event

  1. Arrive at least 45min before advertised start time;
  2. One Starter to collect green fees: $60 ($15 for Host Club Members and those who have cleared reciprocal playing rights with the pro shop) and mark paid on Starters Sheet;
  3. Remove cards for any late apologies / withdrawals;
  4. One Starter to mark on Starters Sheet and issue cards to those paid.
    1. Advise players of any special course conditions / local rules for the day;
    2. Record each group sent out on summary sheet.
  5. One starter / or the on duty committee member to take cards to player groups:
    1. Hand out cards;
    2. Two Tee start: Ensure nearest Pin Markers issued to 1st groups on 1st & 10th Tees;
    3. Three Tee start: Ensure nearest Pin Markers handed to correct groups for the particular circumstances of the 3rd hole;
    4. Shotgun start: Ensure nearest Pin Markers handed to correct groups as shown on the Groups sheet;
    5. Follow up with the next groups and provide instructions to the appropriate Tee;
    6. Remind the relevant groups to collect nearest-the-pin markers and hand them to the Handicapper.
    7. Advise Pro shop of the number of players;
    8. Advise Club of the numbers for lunch;
    9. Where necessary secure money for handover to Treasurer (Peter Ross 0418 176 303), complete with Starters List marked up with any no shows.
