The Club almost returned to normal for our event at Waterford Valley on Monday 6 Dec 2021. There was a two tee start, lots of good and bad golf played and a thorough enjoyable day had by all.
Vice President Peter Garbellini welcomed members to Waterford Valley and praised the course and co-operation of the Club in having our 59 starters play there.
By the end of the day though some things were a little different. For the third known time a Club member recorded a hole in one during a club event. John Hiscock was the hero and, fortunately Ray Desmond was able to record John for posterity. John joins Tony O'Reilly (5th at Waverley Public) and Daryl Edwards (6th at Eagle Ridge) with this achievement.
It turns out that John was not the only recent 'hole in one' as Ray Desmond had another at Brighton two weeks ago.
It is very likely that holes-in-one by some members have been missed. Please let Laurie know and we can add you to the list.
Of the 15 holes-in-one noted above, 9 were by Committee members and
1 by pseudo-committee member John Hiscock. The clear message is: if
you want to get a hole-in-one -- Join the Committee!
Bearing in mind that Ray Desmond has at least several more
undocumented Holes-in-one the join the Committee message should be
stronger.
In addition 5 of the achievements were on the 3rd hole. Does this mean it's easier while you're fresh?
Since posting the newsletter I have heard of two other holes-in-one by Club members, but they were before the member joined.
The next noticeable and a first for the Club was the win of "C" grade by Marg Holden. Now we have an enthusiastic group of lady players appearing regularly in the Club events we can expect to see them in the winners circle from time to time.
Other members noted their golfing achievements over the last month, but
no pen was available to collect the details.
Members, now that regulations have changed please remember to support our Club sponsors- The House of Golf and Jimmy's Jams for which we are extremely grateful. Members can purchase a 3 jar pack for $20 from David Heraud at our events.

We are still looking for that elusive $60 from Cranbourne. Please check your info., much appreciated.
New members of the Club may not be aware that the match day results are published on the web site on the afternoon of the event. Handicapper Ray enters all results and these show up on the Results page accessible from the members index page. The full details sheet will generally be added the next day as it has to go through an email on the way to the web.
I expect most of our members play golf primarily for the joy of play and socialising, rather than as a serious attempt to be the "improved golfer" and "winner".
The advice here is for those who want to improve and are prepared to put extra effort into doing so.
Without a shadow of doubt the best way to improve is to seek professional help and practice what you learn.
For those who wish to avoid the cost of professional help, there is the Internet.
I used a Google search for golf tips and found: About 1,430,000,000 results (0.64 seconds)
My favoured search engine www.duckduckgo.com did not show the number of results, but clearly it would have been vast.
Some of these web sites offer to send "daily tips" and amongst those which have turned up on my computer are:
In the early days of them arriving I used to select the link in the email and view the associated video or on-line tips.
After a while the whole scene seemed boring and now I find 147 out of 242 emails since 2018 have not been read, awaiting the time when I have nothing to do.

Family compexities
Two men met at a bus stop and struck up a conversation. One of them kept complaining of family problems.
Finally, the other man said, "You think you have family problems? Listen to my situation. A few years ago, I met a young widow with a grown-up daughter, and we got married. Later my father married my stepdaughter. That made my stepdaughter my stepmother and my father became my stepson. Also, my wife became mother-in-law of her father-in-law.
Then the daughter of my wife, my stepmother, had a son. This boy was my half-brother because he was my father's son, but he was also the son of my wife's daughter, which made him my wife's grandson. That made me the grandfather of my half-brother. This was nothing until my wife and I had a son. Now the half-sister of my son, my stepmother, is also the grandmother.
This makes my father the brother-in-law of my child, whose stepsister is my father's wife. I'm my stepmother's brother-in-law, my wife is her own child's aunt, my son is my father's nephew and I'm my own grandfather!
