President Report

President Report:

The members were welcomed back to participate in the Vets tournament at Cranbourne as Government and CoVID regulations forced the cancellation of several of our proposed courses.

The fairways were in magnificent condition considering the weather of late but the bunkers proved to be a BIG hazard.

Our starters Peter, Phil, Harold and Roger had the field ready for the shotgun start prepared by Captain Jeff with the golfers providing their double vaxxed information - which is now a requirement by ALL host golf clubs.

We had 52 who enjoyed the great weather conditions, whilst there were 20 apologies for the day. It was great to see some old faces back on the fairways, namely Gary Finnis, Ray Underwood and John Field.

Our thoughts are with all members with ongoing health issues.

Members, now that regulations have changed please remember to support our Club sponsors- The House of Golf and Thorne Window Cleaning.  We are proud to announce a NEW sponsor through David Heraud which is Jimmy's Jam Products for which we are extremely grateful.  Members can purchase a 3 jar pack for $20 through him at our events.

Presentation function 2021.

We are happy to announce that this years function will definitely be at the Rossdale Golf Club on Monday the 13th of December with guests to arrive between 12.00 - 12.30p.m.

The cost will be $50 per member, wife or partner which includes a pre dinner drink prior to a 2 course meal.  ( If there is any dietary requirements please advise when booking).  The table arrangement will accommodate 8 persons.  Everyone attending must be DOUBLE vaxxed as proof will need to be shown at the door.  Please have your identification handy.

At the function we will be announcing our Club Champion, Presidents and Captains award along with the Aged category winners.

So please arrange your tables of eight advising either the Secretary or the President asap as our number needs to be confirmed by the 7th of December. We are hoping you all can attend.

The booking sheet for the function has been revised to suit 8 person tables and is available on the website booking area.

2022 Golfers digest

Our Marketing person, Daryl Edwards is taking orders for next years Golfers Digest which is RRP $30 but if purchasing through our club you can obtain it for $15.  Great value and discounts at courses throughout Australia.

We are still looking for that elusive $60 from Cranbourne.  Please check your info., much appreciated.

Club volunteers

Outside of the Committee, the Club still has a small number of members who contribute to the overall benefit to members.  These contributors include:

  • John Hiscock:  John's visible contribution to running the raffle is seen by all playing members each month.
  • Rod Goode:  Rod's role is behind the scenes.  He proof reads the newsletter each month and helps to ensure we have a respectable public presentation by being virtually spelling and grammar error free.
  • Roger Huxsted:  Roger's role is even further behind the scenes.  He backs up our data base each month.  Fortunately we have never needed to use the backup, but we all know that sooner or later we will need to restore our information from a backup.
  • John Molloy:  John's role is visible to new members in particular as John takes the 'mugshots' we use in the members contact details page.
  • Gary Finnis:  Gary has acted as the Club's main photographer for many years, only slowing down recently owing to ill health.

Captain Jeff Stevens welcomed members to 'Cranbourne Golf Club' for the House of Golf Mentone Trophy event.

The greatest invention

An engineer, a physicist, a mathematician, and a mystic were asked to name the greatest invention of all times.

The engineer chose fire, which gave humanity power over matter.

The physicist chose the wheel, which gave humanity the power over space.

The mathematician chose the alphabet, which gave humanity power over symbols.

The mystic chose the thermos bottle.

"Why a thermos bottle?" the others asked.

"Because the thermos keeps hot liquids hot in winter and cold liquids cold in summer.

"Yes -- so what?"

The supreme invention
The supreme invention

"Think about it." said the mystic reverently. "That little bottle -- how does it know which temperature is needed?"
