June 2020 Newsletter

President:

It has seemed a lifetime that we have been able to participate in our passion for golf. The COVID regulations of isolation over the last 3 months has made us frustrated golfers, with the game at Centenary Park a welcome return.

We had a field of 69 who took the challenge of the course, which was in reasonable condition considering the amount of rain we have experienced.

Our starters, Peter Garbellini and Gary Morland had the early golfers away on time, with Harold and Jeff completing the despatching of the second half of the field.

In our field we had 3 guests, Chris Macgeorge guests Phil Howe and Colin Rangitonga, and John Newby's guest Peter Hameister who were all introduced to our Vets club, made welcome and given a golf ball.

It was great to see our major sponsor from The House of Golf, Innes Ireland in the field.

We received apologies from 19 members who were unable to attend the game.

During the last month I have chatted with Lance Bolam and Donald McDonald who are in reasonable health during this lockdown period.

Our next game is at Southern Golf Club on 6th of July with an 8am start from two tees, will be under similar conditions on arrival and tee times. The cost is $50 for the game and includes the raffle, to be placed in an envelope with your name. Carts to be booked at the club.

Has someone lost a golf club, believe it maybe from a group between 14 to 18, found on the ninth green area.

The child worker

A young family moved into a house next door to an empty block. One day, a gang of building workers turned up to start building on the block.

The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and started talking with the workers.

She hung around and eventually the builders, all with hearts of gold, more or less adopted the little girl as a sort of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had tea and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important.

They even gave the child her very own hard hat and gloves, which thrilled her immensely.

After a few weeks, the builders presented her with a pay envelope - containing $10 in 50 cent coins. The little girl took her "pay" home to her mother who suggested that they take the money to the bank the next day to open a savings account.

At the bank, the female cashier was tickled pink listening to the little girl telling her about her "work" on the building site and the fact she had a "pay packet".

"You must have worked very hard to earn all this", said the cashier.

The little girl proudly replied, "Yes, I worked every day with Steve and Wayne and Mike. We're building a big house."

"My goodness gracious" said the cashier, "and will you be working on the house again next week?

The child thought for a moment. Then she said seriously:

"I think so. Provided those ******* at Boral deliver the ******* bricks on time."
