On Monday 4 May 2015, we had 43 starters at Cranbourne Golf Club. Our game on the day was Stableford and we played for the Royce Hollingsworth Trophy
President Bernie stated how good it was to be back and playing with the club again after his trips away, in particular battling Cyclone Pam on a cruise. He said he missed the "strange barking sounds" of some people (Bulldog supporters after beating the Swans), Colin Wiseman's pithy comments and funny things like people turning up a week early for today's game - all in a normal Vets fun day at the golf!
He also welcomed all members to Cranbourne GC, especially those who have not played here before. The greens have been cored, but all courses are doing that now. He thanked the Club for the use of their excellent course, facilities and lunch. He stated that it was a great day.
He also thanked Gary Finnis and Donald MacDonald and the committee for "holding the fort" whilst so many were away on holidays.
Today we had 43 starters - a good roll up!
Apologies were received from Alan Millard, Hugh Churchward, Neil Hills, John Hiscock, Peter Charlewood, Lindsay Quennell, Roger Selwood, Rob Bailey, Harold Hayes, Alex Johnson, Peter Bryan, Kel Tyler, George Giles and John Farrow.
Bernie advised that Ray Reed has been in hospital and had a gall bladder operation. He is now at home and we wish him a speedy recovery. Lance Bolam also has been ill and has a sore back. Lets hope both are back playing with us soon.
No guests this month, but Bernie said that we have three new members playing today. Gary Morland is playing his first game with us - welcome. Also Grant Watson and Ross Hargreaves are new - welcome Grant and Ross. Bernie asked them to come up and say hello as he has been away travelling for a while and would like to meet you all.
Bernie thanked Hans Bleeker and Rod Goode for being our starters for the day. They were very well organised.
He reminded us of our agreement with the House of Golf Brighton who are subsidising all of our winners' vouchers, so please support them.
We are also happy to receive donations for raffle prizes, so please help if you can.
Bernie stated that he only knew of one this month - John Sutherland was a member of the Brighton Golf Club team that won the Senior Pennant Team Premiership. A great achievement.
The 65th Anniversary shirts and club gear are now available from our Marketing Manager, Daryl Edwards.
It is well and truly up and running and Bernie hoped all are using it. With each Newsletter, we are sending out the link to help members get onto it. He stated that he trusted that this is working well. He asked if anyone was experiencing problems, but there were none mentioned.
Not every one of our readers is inclined to explore our web site each time they go there. This time use the adjacent guideline to see the some of the photos taken at Cranbourne. |
Bernie asked members if there were any thoughts about new venues for next year.
The possibility of Lang Lang was raised, although some people expressed doubt due to the distance to be travelled.
He asked if there were any other issues that members would like to raise??
There were none, so Bernie handed over to the Captain.
Captain Donald welcomed everyone and trusted they had all enjoyed today's course.
Winner today of the Royce Hollingsworth Trophy with a score of 41 points was David Vine. |

Jeff Taylor
Secretary
During a visit to the mental asylum, I asked the director how do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.
"Well," said the director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub."
"Oh, I understand," I said "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup."
"No." said the director, "A normal person would pull the plug.
Would you prefer a bed near the window?"
