July 2014 newsletter

On Monday 7 July 2014 we played at Southern Golf Club. Our game on the day was a Stableford event for the Grant Haselgrove Perpetual Trophy.

President Bernie welcomed all members to Southern GC and said that, 'it was great to see you all'

He gave a very special welcome to the man who has today's trophy named after him - Grant Haselgrove.

He also said that it was good to see Lance Bolam, Daryl Edwards with his 'crutch', Colin Wiseman and Mario Andreola back and playing with us.

He thanked the Southern GC for the use of their excellent course, their good facilities, lunch and for the great weather. He asked members to put their hands together to thank the Southern GC.

Number of Players:

Bernie advised that there were 46 players on the day - another great roll up.

Apologies were received from Neil Hills, Peter Bryan, Laurie Comerford, David Shutler, John Hiscock, Noel Valle, Hugh Churchward and Donald MacDonald who was back in Scotland on holiday.

Sick List:

Marketing Manager, Daryl Edwards has had his new knee installed and is coming along well. Neil Hills is also coming along well after some hip problems.

Starters today:

Thank you to our starters today, Jeff Taylor and Hans Bleeker. He said 'thanks to you Guys for volunteering as this is a very important role and I encourage more to volunteer and undertake this role'. It is made a lot easier with the information sheet now supplied by the Captain to starters showing them what to do.

It is also a good way to meet people.

Raffle Prize:

Bernie thanked Gary Finnis who stood in for John Hiscock today.

We now have an agreement with the House of Golf at Brighton whereby they are subsidising all our winners vouchers, so please support the House of Golf at Brighton and tell them you are from the Vic Vets group.

Special Achievements:

There were two known special achievements in the past month.

65th Anniversary:

Members were reminded that this was our 65th anniversary year and that our Club shirts, Club jumpers and hats were available for purchase.

See Gary Finnis or Bernie if you wish to purchase our range of products.

Web site:

It is now up and running and will be a very welcome addition to our club. Thanks to Laurie Comerford. Hopefully this will help as a recruiting tool and also be of great use to us all. You can look at it at www.vetsgolfvic.org.au.

Peter Ross suggested that only Name and Phone number be made available on the website. This suggestion was agreed to by all members who attended the presentation session.

See Attachment 1 for more details.

As mentioned at the AGM, we are looking at modernising our handicapping system so that we can use our GA handicaps (for those on Golflink) and also cater for those who do not currently possess a GA handicap. Today is the last day that we will be using our own handicapping system. From Eagle Ridge GC onwards, we will need to come along to each game with the details of our GA handicap and the starters will use a Lookup Chart to calculate your daily handicap. For those without a GA handicap it will be done for you.

See Attachment 2 for more details.

Eagle Ridge - 21 July:

Please note the start time is 8.15 so we need to be there at 7.45 to get the carts organised.

Question Time:

No questions were asked, so Bernie handed the meeting over to Mike our A/Captain, to announce the winners for the day.

Acting Captain:

Acting Captain Mike welcomed members to Rossdale GC for today's event. He said how nice it would be to have someone speaking English when doing the presentations
