Newsletter - December 2013

On Monday 02 December 2013, we had 50 starters at Long Island Golf Club. Our game on the day was Stableford and we played for the Sponsors Trophy.

President:

President Bernie welcomed all members to Long Island GC. He welcomed back all travellers and those who had been sick in recent times. It was especially hot today and many members suffered from the heat. He hoped all were feeling better now that they were inside and out of the heat. Bernie commented on the fact that Hugh Churchward was taken by ambulance to the Dandenong Hospital for precautionary tests.
He also thanked the Club for the use of their excellent course, facilities and lunch.

Apologies:

Apologies were received from Peter Charlewood, Colin Wiseman (hip repair), Mike Bainbridge (hand operation), Jeff Stevens (o/seas), Jeff Taylor (o/seas), Ken Griffiths (holidays) and Mario Andreola.

Sick List:

Grant Haselgrove, Colin Wiseman and Mike Bainbridge remain on our sick list.

Guests:

We had 2 guests on the day:
1. George Weaver was a guest of Peter Ross and;
2. Roger Huxstep was a guest of John Molloy.

*George Weaver joined on the day.

Starters today:

Bernie thanked John Hiscock and Rod Goode for being our starters for the day.

Special Achievements:

There were four known special achievements in the past month.
(1) Alan Millard won a Stableford event at Rossdale GC with 43 pts on c/b;
(2) Ray Desmond won a Stableford event at Brighton GC with 41 pts;
(3) Stan Klofa won a Stableford event at Cheltenham GC with 41 pts; and
(4) John Sutherland won the Nett Club Championship at Brighton GC for 2013 with a total score of 199 for three rounds.

Raffle Prizes:

Bernie gave a big thank you to Terry Colpo for his raffle donation of a bottle of whiskey.

Christmas Luncheon:

Our 2013 Christmas luncheon was held on Monday 9 December at the Rossdale GC.
More information about our luncheon is provided later on in this Newsletter.

Club Jumpers:

A small number of Club jumpers are now available to members. If you are interested in
buying a Club jumper see our Marketing Manager, Daryl Edwards. The cost of a jumper is $75.

AGM:

The next AGM will be held in February 2014 at the Rossdale GC.

65th Anniversary:

In 2014 our Club celebrates its 65th anniversary and the Committee has decided to have a special polo shirt produced for the occasion. Daryl Edwards brought a sample to Long Island GC for members to look at. Orders will be taken at Churchill Park at a special discounted rate.

Question Time:

No questions were asked.

Captain:

Captain Donald welcomed members to Long Island GC for today’s event.
The CCR for the day was 35.

Winners on the day were:

Sponsors Trophy: Ken Pride (26) was our winner with 38 points; Ken received a $50 cash prize as well as a $30 Bunnings voucher for his superb display. Class Winners: A Grade: John Sutherland (16) 35 points B Grade: Harold Hayes (22) 38 points C Grade: Ronnie Chong (31) 35 points Nearest to the Pin: 3rd Hole: Darryl Gangell; 9th Hole: Harold Hayes;  12th Hole: Geoff Weaver Balls down the line: John Hiscock  35 pts;  George Weaver 35 pts;  Gary Finnis 35 pts; Kelvin Tyler 34 pts;  Noel Manning  34 pts; David Vine 33 pts;  Alan Millard  33 pts; and Rod Goode 33 pts

NAGA Award:

John Farrow was our lucky winner.

Raffle Winner:

The raffle prize was drawn by Roger Huxstep and was won by Daryl Edwards. The prize was a bottle of whiskey donated by Terry Colpo.
