President Report

President:

President Donald welcomed all of us to Waterford Valley Golf Club and the stableford competition for the Bob Leverington Trophy. On a cold, windy morning, the course in pretty good condition, the members faced a tough test of golf. He asked all present to thank the club for the use of their facilities, and their generous donation of our main raffle prize, a voucher for a round of golf for 4 players at Waterford Valley.

Under the stewardship of Daryl Edwards and John Hiscock our raffle continues to be a significant and successful source of club funds. These funds are used directly to keep our matchday costs competitive (green fees, lunch) so please continue to support our raffle.

Number of Players / Guests:

We had a very good turnout today despite this being a busy time of the year for the members. We had 56 players involved in the competition even though there was a large number of apologies. No guests today.

Apologies:

There were 23 apologies noted for this month:
Al Abraham, Keith Aldrich, Alan Baker, Donald Barrett, Rex Buckeridge, Peter Charlewood, Bernie Coyle, Reg Davey, Gary Finnis, Anthony French, David Heraud, Mike Hoyle, Karl Lindberg, Chris Macgeorge, Bruce McMaster, Stan Odachowski, David Paterson, Ken Pride, Ian Richards, Kelvin Tyler, Ray Underwood, Noel Valle & Ross Wilson.

Starters today:

Donald and the members thanked Noel Manning, Chris Procter and Peter Sloan who got us all away in good time. Excellent work guys!

The President reinforced the need for all competitors to arrive at the host club and be ready to play golf at the stipulated time especially those on carts. Late arrivals cause unnecessary difficulty for the starters. We ask the starters to get the groups away in the least possible time to ensure another cause of "slow-play" is removed. A lot of planning work goes into making sure groups are optimally selected for matchday.  Please do your part by being on time!!

Please take pride in your club and always ensure that you "keep up with the group in front of you". That is the number one priority we have in terms of efficient golf. ( play 'ready golf')
That means that you must be at your nominated tee for the required tee-off time as specified by our Captain. The starting times are clearly indicated in the Captain's email which is circulated to all members a day or two before the event.

Membership News.

We had a magnificent event for our 70th Anniversary Medal at Spring Valley GC on Monday 18th November which was a beautiful sunny Melbourne day. We had a field of 72 competitors.

Outstanding! Once again our thanks to Captain Harold for putting it all together.
>Donald reminded us again that our annual Xmas luncheon and Awards ceremony will take place at Keysborough GC on Monday 9th December, 2019 with a 12 noon arrival for a 12.30pm start. Currently we have a total of 100 attendees. All members will have received the flyer which details this event. Costs are $40 per person, If you have any queries, please contact our Secretary, Jeff Taylor.

Our 2020 season kicks off in January with a stableford competition for the 'Bill Fitzsimmons' Trophy at Keysborough.

This will be followed in February at Rossdale GC by our 2020 AGM. The AGM will follow on from the golf competition for the Royce Hollingsworth Trophy. The date for Rossdale is Monday 3rd February, 2020. Papers for the AGM will be sent out to each member by email or direct mail as appropriate. Please ensure a healthy attendance at the AGM as we drive the club forward into the next stage of development.

CoM Business:

Every second month this report summarises the business matters being addressed by your Committee of Management.

There was no CoM meeting on 2nd December, 2019. Next meeting Monday 13th January, 2020 at Keysborough GC.

Special Achievements:

In the past month or so these achievements were noted;

  • George Giles won the 'Sara Lee' social comp on Aug 11th at Eagle Ridge GC. He had a total of 40 stableford points which is a great score at Eagle Ridge. Well played George!
  • Ray Desmond won the 'Medal of Medallists' at Brighton GC on Sat 9 Nov. Ray tied with 3 other monthly winners before emerging triumphant from the playoff with a score of +3. Champion golf Ray! Well done.
  • Shay McQuade (23) won the comp at Brighton last Saturday. The comp was played using "Irish Stableford" scoring rules. Shay was victorious with a total score of 93 (yes 93!) points. Top of the mornin' Shay!

We look forward to hearing of more success on the golf course in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to all our Vets winners. Thanks as always, go to all those who contributed the information.

Who was Jesus?

There are 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:

  1. He called everyone brother
  2. He liked Gospel
  3. He didn't get a fair trial

But then there are 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:

  1. He went into His Father's business
  2. He lived at home until he was 33
  3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God

But then there are 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:

  1. He talked with His hands
  2. He had wine with His meals
  3. He used olive oil

But then there are 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:

  1. He never cut His hair
  2. He walked around barefoot all the time
  3. He started a new religion

But then there are 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Native American:

  1. He was at peace with nature
  2. He ate a lot of fish
  3. He talked about the Great Spirit

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:

  1. He never got married.
  2. He was always telling stories.
  3. He loved green pastures
Picture

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:

  1. She fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food
  2. She kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it
  3. And even when She was dead, She had to get up because there was still work to do
