President Bernie sends his apologies. Vice President Gary welcomed all members to Patterson River GC, especially those who have not played here before. He thanked the Club for the use of their course, facilities and lunch.
Today we had 39 starters — an excellent roll up considering the weather, with hail and heavy rain.
Apologies were received from Bernie Coyle, Laurie Comerford, Tom Govern, Ray Underwood, Daryl Gangell, Gary Morland, Gerry O'Connor, Rod Goode, Grant Watson, Roger Huxstep, Ken Griffiths, Mike Bainbridge, John Currie, Barry Taylor and Alex Johnson.
Gary advised that Bernie Coyle, Chris Tierney, Lance Bolam, Ray Reed, Alan Millard, Peter Charlewood and Roger Selwood.
We had one guest today — Ron Dickson a guest of John Farrow. Welcome Ron and thank you John for bringing Ron along.
Gary thanked Robin Miller and Ronnie Chong for being our starters for the day. They were very well organised.
He reminded us of our agreement with the House of Golf Brighton, who are subsidising all of our winners' vouchers and urged us to support them. The committee is also happy to receive other donations for raffle prizes, so please help if you can.
He stated that we played for the Club's Winter Classic at Eagle Ridge on 20 July, 2015 It was a great day once we got started — we were delayed due to the amount of frost and dew on the fairways, which limited the use of our carts until after 9am. We are making a booking for a similar date in 2016.
He mentioned that we are going along to Brighton Golf Club to again defend our title - the date is 21 September, 2015. The day will be the normal 18 holes followed by a roast lunch. If you wish to play please put your name on the list that is circulating and pay either today or on 7 September at Churchill Park.
Gary stated that he knew of none this month.
The web site is well and truly up and running and Gary hoped all are using it. Our Webmaster, Laurie Comerford, is still putting the Newsletter for this month together, remotely from Northern NSW, where he is on holidays. A great effort and it shows that we have achieved much this year. Remember - www.vetsgolfvic.org.au.
He reminded us that the 65th Anniversary polo shirts and club gear are available from Daryl Edwards.
He asked if there were any other issues that members would like to raise?? There were none, so Gary handed over to the Captain.
This information will be of direct interest to members who holiday in the places near Coffs Harbour in Northern NSW, but will also indicate ways of getting a game with Veterans anywhere.
While holidaying in Coffs Harbour I joined the Coffs Harbour Golf Club as a monthly member. This costs $86/month for a minimum of 3 months and enables full playing rights on the 27 hole course.
One of my playing partners mentioned the Mid North Coast Veteran Golfers Association
This Association play on Tuesdays, 51 weeks/year at several courses within an hours drive of Coffs Harbour including the famed Bonville.
They welcome visitors with open arms and play costs $15.50 with balls for all scores of 34 or better and a winners voucher of $30. As you'd expect, you don't get to play Bonville for $15.50 as you need to pay for cart hire and course status. All I can say here is that you would not find a lower cost way of playing there.
As their joining fee is $10 and annual fee also $10, joining the Association is certainly viable.
The Association does not have the same post match socialisation which makes our club so friendly, just the normal post-match drinks with playing partners.
Captain Donald welcomed members to Rossdale Golf Club for today's event.
The John Sant Trophy winner was Daryl Edwards (25) with 42 points He received a $30 House of Golf voucher for his effort. |

About 100 years ago an elderly Scottish farmer told his grand daughter "Sprinkle a bit of gunpowder on your porridge every morning for a long and healthy life."
It must have worked because she lived to be a sprightly 103 years old. When she died she left 7 children, 23 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a 20m hole were the crematorium used to be.
Churchill Park GC for the John Coleman Trophy starting at 8:00 on 7th September. StartersLance Bolam and Harold Hayes |
